Custom SearchBox – Blogger.Draft feature

This is a dream come true for all the bloggers who are apprehensive to incorporate the “Google Custom Search Box” in their blog.. Where search can be performed exclusively for your blog… Confused.. try searching for something in the Searchbox you see above. Watch how the results are displayed in Tabs..

  1. Results from This Blog
  2. Results from the Links used here
  3. Results from The Web

The Best part is.. the results are displayed separately for easier identification
This is the SearchBox widget being introduced by Blogger_Draft dont worry too much.. Blogger Draft is where blogger introduces its new features for us to try out and give our opinion… following which the widget will be introduced at the regular blogger dashboard

Inorder to be able to use the widgets introduced in draft.. you just need to type draft.blogger.com in your browser..Lo!.. you have your dashboard.. looks the same eh !..
Now go to TEMPLATE – PAGE ELEMENTS- ADD PAGE ELEMENTS… you must be able to see the SEARCH BOX as new widget amongst all other regular widgets

Just add the widget and give your choice towards searching.. you can restrict the search towards your blog only… or allow results from all over the web .. right inside your blog

You may move the SearchBox like any other widget… and the results are always displayed at the area just above your blog posts… so that the reader can see them at “eye-level”.. without having to scroll to the end of the page or so

Personally I would prefer to use this than the GoogleCustomSearchBox.. reason being.. i find the customization – incorporation – display of results to be very clumsy ( at least for me)…which is why I never had a search box in my blog all these days. Just try it out.. if you dont like it.. you can always remove the widget… what do you say ? ? ? ?
Your appreciation is my motivation

  1. Hi Deepa,

    Here to trouble u again.

    1. May i know how to adjust the length of the search box?

    2. Am i able to move the search button to next line?

    Thanks alot!

  2. Hi Akie
    glad that you stopped by.
Shortly i am planning to release posts on customizing the search box..so keep the suggestions coming..

  3. Thank you for posting this. It is exactly what I was “searching” for! 🙂

HOWEVER (bet you knew that was coming) — I have two blogs and installed the widget on both. On one blog, it seems to be working fine (although loads slowly).

On my other blog (http://globalcookies.blogspot.com), there seems to be a glitch. The first thing I tested it with was the word “alfajores”. Now I have two posts with that word. One is archived and one is current. No matter what I do, it will ONLY return the archived post. The title for the current post is “Peru: Alfajores de Manjar Blanco” and the archived post’s title is “Argentina: Alfajores Danubio”. What gives?

At first I thought it wouldn’t return the post on Peru because it was the latest post. So I went to my other blog to test. My latest post there has the word “Italian” in the post title and there are several posts that are archived with that same word. When I did a search, both the archived AND the current post were returned.

    Any ideas?

  4. Sorry…one more thing. On one of my blogs (not the one with problem I posted earlier) at http://www.chefmomcooks.blogspot.com, it seems to take much longer to load. And my entire sidebar disappears while it is loading. I’m afraid that someone with an older PC might have a problem.

    Suggsetions?

  5. Hi Chef Mom
    Welcome ..
I saw u r http://www.chefmomcooks.blogspot.com.. seems no problem with my system.. this is how the page loads…post-section – sidebar – searchbox

The delay in loading the page may be due to u r network connection… or if u r seeing any other page that might have too many graphics like pics , flash files etc.. so no need to worry… once in a while.. delete temp files from u r system, clear the cookies .. and archive not-so-frequently used files into a CD… this should allow u r system to run smooth and quick

In http://globalcookies.blogspot.com)… i also noticed the glitch.. though i am not sure.. just try this.. remove the search widget – save blog and view – logout of blogger and view – login to blogger – add search widget – and view… and then test it again… hope this fixes it
