- Upload the audio file
- Geocities and Google Pages allow us to create webpages and upload files.
- So using your yahooID or gmail ID create your website (we will be using the filemanager feature).Eg.I have one-page website with some junk text
- Register with FiledenSelect the Free-Account plan
This is a Free File hostng service provider.Allows us to upload files to put on other websites, communities or to share with friends and family. FileDen.com offers the service absolutely free of charge
- Upload the audio file using the UPLOAD link
- if you are presented with IMG tag window select DIRECT LINK ..this will give you the direct link that you can use in the blog
- Otherwise..Locate the filemanager link
- Once upload is complete and you are able to see your audio clip in the list provided by the file manager…Rightclik –properties–copy the URL into a notepad and save it

- Place this code in the edit html page of your post

You may vary the height and width to suit your posts - You can place this code at any postion of the post content ..just move this code around.,.and see where it fits best
- The advantage is..the audio clip plays in the same window ..ie.. does not open another annoying pop-up window
Assuming that you have the concerned audio clip ready in your computer

What you fail to tell people is that Google pages requires you to have a mobile phone to create an account or a gmail account & geocities does not allow hotlinking.

but from the site i guess you can only use the songs (mp3) available in there.In order to have u r persoonal choice of audio/song.. in the player..i suggest that u use some free filehostng service (that does not require you to signin once in 30 days or it will be deactivated)…

The audio plyer that u se here is not a widget…jut a line of html code..To have this in your sidebar… go to template-page elements-Add the html/JScript-element to your sidebar and follow the instructions given…this should add the player to your side bar

Checked with the site you mentioned for reducing the quality. This is just to inform you & fellow readers of your blog.
I converted frm MP3 to MP3. It asks for the reqd bit-rate we want in output.
What it actually does is, cuts the song in half & then reduces the quality as per your reqd bit-rate for the 1st half. SO my 13.7 MB song was reduced to 1.3 MB !

Are u sure u have set the autostart=false.. this determines wether the clip starts automatically or not
I’ve copied and pasted your script exactly, and it still starts automatically. Totally frustrating. One thing I’ve noticed: Blogger is changing the script so that there are quotations around the FALSE. (autostart=”false” loop=”false”) Is that important?

AHA! Using “0” instead of “false” works better… but you may want to double check that, as I’m no genious at this stuff.
I think the problem may lie in the fact that I was viewing the page using Mozilla and not IE.

I am using the Thisaway Template, and I inserted the audio device into my sidebar using the HTML/Java script Page Element.
Unfortunately, I can’t find the exact links for this, but basically I just googled “problems with autostart = false” (or something like that)and got the idea that the problem was FF and that a solution would be to use “O” instead of “false.” I gave it a try and it worked. That’s all I know. One other site suggested using “autoplay” instead of “autostart” but i didn’t try that.

In order to access files from the computer to the internet.. it is necessary that you upload it to a common server and call your file from that location..
Fileden (link given in blog) is one such service.
Just register yourself with fileden and upload a file..
Look around the options available in fileden once u have uploaded.. you will see a link called “FILES”.. if you clik there.. u will the fi;e u have just now uploaded.. then rest is easy.. just follow the instructions

The (technical)reason the why the songs does not start automatically is…autostart=false
Honestly.. its a very bad practice to autostart the song,,,It drives your visitors away..
still if u insist on playing the music automatically.. u can change the value to TRUE

Try reducing the width of the console.. so the bare minimum controls are available to the user

Your advice worked well enough, but the image of the player is just a black thing unless I edit the html to 0 pix height and width. it’s rather ugly, as not there’s a blank html sidebar with only one word. To get it to work at all, I had to use quicktime. Is there a way to make the player an actual player instead of that blankness? Thanks, Deepa.

If you are setting the width and height to zero.. you are virtually making the controls invisible to the user.. ie… he cannot control volume / puse / start / stop of the music
Since the same console is used to play audio & viedio files.. the “black” thing u see.. comes handy for vedio files ( avi mpeg)
If you wnat to display only the control part ( minus the black thing).. then adjust the height apprpritately..

Yes, I have noticed that too.. that happens when the file is uploaded to a common server like googlepages, fileden, or geocities.. etc.. where each file is given a specific bandwidth.
Once the dload exceeds this bandwidth for that month, then its inaccessible for the rest of the month.
Well, the inconvenience is part of “free” service

Amy, this is one think we have to put up with free file hosing services . If you want, you can opt for paid file hosing services that provide unlimited (or much heigher) bandwidth and download… i think all free hosing services had a paid plan.. just compare them and pick the one that suits best

hi, first of all, many tanks for the info.
im concerned about the file hosting. currently, im using boxstr wich suit me best at first. but, since i dont put a song for each post on my blog, it once happened that i didnt upload anything for a month, wich means i didnt log on to my boxstr account for that period, and i found all my files deleted and a message saying that free accounts get the files deleted after 30 days of inactivity (wich is not logging in), so now i checked fileden, and it says it deletes the files after 60 days, wich is kinda better. now it would be cool if files didnt get vanished at all.
i have no problem with the bandwith limit, maybe only with the size limit of individual files, but it really bothers me having my files deleted and its also frustrating having to log on every once in a while just to keep the account active. do you know of any host service that doesnt delete the files (on free accounts of course)? does googlepages have this issue?
regarding the bandwith limit many people may not like: with boxstr, i made two accounts, and i use once at a time. for instance, i post a song today and use the first boxstr account, the next song i post i use the second one, and so on. i cant tell if it really helps to reduce the bandwith cause i dont have much traffic on my blog, but you may give it a try, just thought it could be of help

There is always soe catch with the free file hosing services… better we start accepting it.
These are the possible scenaripos when the sonf does not work
The song does not show up.. of the band width of the is exceeded ( as in google pages).. but file is not deleted..and the song show up from the next session starts ( could be weekly or monthly)
Fileden requires you to signin every 30-90 days.. and so deos many other sites.
Each of these sites will have soem kind of alert setting that will ping your inbox if you dont login for 30 days.
My files are distributed across fileden, filecube,box.net.. etc.. so i get alert in my inbox telling i have not logged in… i immedialty log in and logout.. and forget about it for the next 30 days.
So with free filesharing.. we need to do some xtra work.. there is no escaping this 🙂
